Our Mission
Apprenticeships for America is the national association advancing Registered Apprenticeship as America’s first-choice talent strategy. With members across industry, labor, education, and government, AFA works to strengthen the policies, practices, and systems that allow apprenticeships to flourish and succeed.
Our advocacy focuses on building a modern, National Apprenticeship System that helps employers develop skilled talent while creating economic mobility for workers through apprenticeships.
AFA connects policy to practice — helping employers of all sizes launch and scale high-quality apprenticeships while advancing the infrastructure and funding needed to support the nation’s apprenticeship system. America currently has roughly 680,000 active apprentices, compared to far higher participation rates in countries such as Switzerland, Germany, and the United Kingdom. Our north star is to reach 4 million active apprentices over the next decade, putting the United States on par with global leaders.
Our Policy Priorities
AFA works to:
• Expand employer participation in apprenticeships
• Modernize the national apprenticeship system
• Strengthen federal and state funding models
• Expand access for underserved populations
• Align apprenticeships with strategic industries
